DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's soccer team battled for much of the contest but fell late to No. 16 Emory on a chilly Thursday night in Demorest.
The Eagles dominated the shot count, holding a 42-3 edge for the contest.
Goalkeeper
HAYLEE DORNAN continued her outstanding play of late, making a career-high 15 saves, holding the high-powered Eagles attack off the scoreboard until the 77th minute.
Emory held a 24-2 shot advantage at the break, but the Piedmont defense forced the shots from deep and Dornan came away with eight saves over the first 45 minutes of play.
As neither team was able to break through midway through the second half, Piedmont's best chance came from a free kick off the foot of
KATY BROWN and a loose ball in the box. However, the Lady Lions' shot was kept out of the net with a diving save from Emory goalkeeper Emma Miller.
The Eagles were finally able to break through in the late going, as Claudia Schmidt unleashed a rocket that whistled past the outstretched arms of Dornan and into the top right corner of the net.
Up next, the Lady Lions will play their final Collegiate Conference of the South game of the season, taking to the road to battle Berea this Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
