Lions Overwhelm Owls for Second Straight Win

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 4, Warren Wilson 0
Records: Piedmont, 4-6; Warren Wilson, 0-8

DEMOREST, Ga. – Piedmont University's men's soccer team earned its second win in as many days as the Lions took down the Warren Wilson Owls 4-0 at the Walker Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

Fresh off a 3-1 victory at Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday, the Lions rode that momentum into this contest and jumped on the Owls with three first-half goals en route to a decisive victory, bringing the team's record back up to 4-6 overall.

Senior forward CAMERON EARLS recorded his second hat trick of the season in the Birmingham-Southern game and picked up right where he left off with another pair against Warren Wilson. Earl's first of the night came in the 23rd minute when a shot from MALA JALLOW hit the left post and bounded right to him, leaving him with a point-blank header chance.

Earls and the Piedmont front were on the attack seemingly the whole game and took advantage of another chance in the 42nd minute. Sophomore EVAN SAYLOR flew his corner kick pass perfectly to the back post, leaving sophomore MATTHEW FRANKLIN there to head in the second goal of the day and his second of the season.

Franklin came up with another heady play less than two minutes later as he and Earls managed to catch the Owls sleeping. After a hand ball called against Warren Wilson, Franklin quickly spotted the ball and led Earls down the field with a pass.

Earls had just the keeper to beat and did so easily before finding the back of the open net to give Piedmont the 3-0 lead.

Franklin made his presence felt again in the second half when he fired a shot off from a tough angle along the end line during a frantic scoring chance for the Lions. His fast-moving shot in the 68th minute deflected off of Warren Wilson's Benjamin Schmid and kicked quickly back into the net for an own goal by the Owls.

Piedmont managed the gap from there and held on for a 4-0 victory that gives the Lions back-to-back wins for the second time this season.

- Piedmont outshot Warren Wilson 23-9 for the contest and earned nine corner kick chances to the Owls' one.
