DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's soccer team opened USA South play Saturday with a dominant 6-0 home shutout of Berea on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions' six goals were tallied by six different players with three players scoring the first of their careers at Piedmont.
Freshmen
BREANNA NINE and
VICTORIA SIERRA tallied the first of their careers along with sophomore
ELISSA LOTTER, who delivered her first career assist Wednesday night. Junior
ANYA OLSON found the back of the net for the first time this season after scoring twice in the spring campaign.
Much like Wednesday night's victory, it did not take Piedmont long to crack the scoreboard as
KATELYN SMITH put away her second penalty kick in two tries this season in the game's fifth minute. However, unlike Wednesday, this time the Lady Lions struck again moments later, as Sierra slipped past the Mountaineers back line and beat the keeper for her first career goal.
The onslaught continued as Lotter capitalized on a feed from
HAILEY TIGUE, dribbled past a pair of Berea defenders and put away her first career goal to the far post to give the Lady Lions a comfortable lead midway through the first half.
Unsatisfied with just a 3-0 edge, Piedmont added another less than two minutes later on a beautiful strike from
KAYLEE KING off a rebound. The goal marked the second straight game in which King has scored. The junior from Loganville, Georgia led the team with six goals this past spring.
Going into the break with a 4-0 lead, a group of Piedmont women's soccer alumni were honored for their contributions to the program.
Â
Early in the second half, the Lady Lions capitalized on their second penalty kick opportunity of the contest as Olson drew a foul in the box and converted for the first time this season.
The lead remained 5-0 for much of the second half before Nine put one away in the final minutes to cap the Piedmont scoring attack.
On the defensive end, freshman goalkeeper
LAILA ALLEN made five saves including a pair of outstanding ones in the first half to keep the Mountaineers off the board.
Up next, Piedmont welcomes No. 15 Centre to Demorest tomorrow morning for an 11:30 a.m. battle.
