Lady Lions Rally Past Oglethorpe 3-1 with Two Second Half Goals

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 3, Oglethorpe 1
Records: Piedmont, 3-1-3; Oglethorpe, 3-3

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's soccer team rallied past Oglethorpe, 3-1, on Wednesday night at the Walker Athletic Complex thanks to a pair of second-half goals.

Although the Lady Lions (3-1-3) dominated possession and the shot count throughout the night, the Stormy Petrels (3-3) were able to equalize late in the first half, which was where the game stayed until senior MADISON COMER powered in her first career goal in the 71st minute.

Minutes later, junior KAYLEE KING delivered a solid strike and put the game away with her first goal of the season, coming in the final minutes.

It did not take the Lady Lions long to leap out front as they earned a corner kick in the second minute. JADE EDWARDS delivered a beautiful ball that was headed toward the goal by MADI GALLARELLI before it was saved by an Oglethorpe defender and then rebounded back into the net by HAILEY TIGUE for her second of the season.

Piedmont continued to control possession before the Stormy Petrels slipped one into the back of the net on a perfectly placed strike by Jade Anderson in the 26th minute.

Headed to the break, Piedmont held an 18-2 shot advantage but were unable to jump back in front.

The game remained knotted up at 1-all until Comer's strike off another corner sent in by Edwards.

From there, the floodgates opened as King's short side strike to the top right corner removed all doubt from the outcome.

King totaled nine shots while ANYA OLSON was second on the team with seven for the game.

Up next, the Lady Lions will remain at home and open USA South play, as they host Berea this Saturday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Comer's first career goal turned out to be the game winner for the senior from Canton, Georgia.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- JADE EDWARDS delivered a career-high two assists, both coming on outstanding corner kicks for the junior.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Lions were firing on all cylinders on the offensive end, holding a 35-7 edge in shot attempts for the contest.
