BREVARD, N.C. – Piedmont College's men's soccer team's spring 2021 season came to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Lions suffered a 2-1 loss on the road at No. 2-seed Brevard in the USA South West Division tournament semifinal round.

The third-seeded Lions bookend their season with one-goal losses to this Brevard team. Piedmont lost 1-0 to the Tornados in the season's first game back on February 14.

Piedmont finishes an up-and down spring season at 6-6 overall, with a 1-6 record on the road.

The Lions struck first on Saturday afternoon as senior CAMERON EARLS netted his 11th goal of the season in the game's 12th minute. Earls' 11 goals led the Piedmont campaign in 2021. The final goal came on an assist from freshman midfielder RICARDO RUIZ, who totaled four assists and four goals in his first season.

Brevard struck back to even the game in the 20th minute on a goal from Facundo Sunhary. The game went scoreless after that point as the teams entered halftime in a 1-1 tie.

The Tornados scored the game-winning goal in the 56th minute on a long goal from Igor Silva that was sent toward the net from 35+ yards out. With swirling winds in Brevard, the ball carried further than Piedmont keeper CAMERON VERONA anticipated. Verona leaped at the last second, but the ball bounded off his hands and back into the goal for the go-ahead score.

Verona finished the game with six saves to add to his season total of 69.

Brevard moves on to the USA South West Division Championship game next Saturday, February 10, versus Covenant.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
