KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Piedmont men's tennis team closed out its 2021 regular season in style Monday evening, rolling past Johnson Univ. (Tenn.) 9-0 in Knoxville.

The Lions dominated all nine lines, winning a doubles match and four singles matches without dropping a single game.

The win closes out Piedmont's regular season at 8-10. The team won four of its last five matches to close out the campaign.

On Monday, things began on a positive note for the Lions as the No. 3 doubles team of CHRIS BALE and PATRICK DEMPSEY rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 3 before HOUSTON MEDLOCK and CHASE MORRIS blanked their opponents 8-0 at No. 2. Finally,. freshman SILAS SANDLES and senior ROMAN WEBB completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 triumph at No. 1.

Needing just two matches to clinch the match in singles, it did not take Piedmont long to do just that. BRYCE VANORDER (6-0, 6-0) rolled at No. 2 before Bale earned the clincher (6-0, 6-0) for the second consecutive day. 

Medlock also was perfect (6-0, 6-0) in his win at No. 1 while Morris dropped only a single game in the first set (6-1, 6-0) on his way to an easy win to keep the shutout going.

Sandles then closed out his strong debut regular season with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 before Dempsey closed out the contest by becoming the fourth Lion to not drop a single game.

Up next, the Lions will travel to Covenant to begin its USA South Tournament. The match is scheduled for this Saturday, April 24 at 1 p.m.
