Volleyball Honors Roberts on Senior Day, Drops Two to Maryville

DEMOREST, Ga. – Saturday marked the final home competitions of the season for Piedmont Volleyball as the Lady Lions honored ALINA ROBERTS on senior day. The Lady Lions dropped a pair of matches to the visiting Maryville Scots 3-0, 3-0.

Match 1, Maryville 3, Piedmont 0

The opening set saw the Scots claim a 25-18 win despite a late run by the Lions. Piedmont trailed 22-13 in the set but was able to rally and score four straight to cut into the lead 22-17. The second set was a similar story as the Lions fell 25-17, but it was the Scots who scored the final five points of the set to seal the win. 

In the third set, Piedmont was within four late trailing 20-16 and stayed in it till the end. Ultimately, the Scots kept it a clean sweep in the first match taking the third set 25-20. 

ALINA ROBERTS led Piedmont with nine kills in her final match for Piedmont. Roberts also tallied an ace and four digs. BRIANNA KING was second on the team with eight kills while JENNIFER HERRERA led Piedmont with 21 assists. 

JESSICA BEIL led the Lady Lions with 19 digs while Mary Grace Shaw added eight. 

Match 2: Maryville 3, Piedmont 0

Piedmont was off to a hot start in the first set of the second match taking a 3-0 lead before a misfire put the Scots on the board. Maryville jumped out in front after seven straight points to claim an 8-4 advantage. The Scots continued to pour it on taking control of the set and claiming a 25-14 win. 

Maryville used that momentum to start the second set racing out to an 8-1 lead. The Scots continued to dominate in the second set claiming a 25-10 win. The third set saw the Lions hang tough with the Scots with the set tied at eight early. 

The Scots took control late in the set to claim a 25-17 win to seal the second victory. King led Piedmont with six kills. JENNIFER HERRERA had 13 assists to lead the Lady Lions while Shaw tallied 14 digs.
