ROME, Ga. - The Piedmont men's tennis team dominated from start-to-finish in a 9-0 USA South sweep of Berea on Saturday morning at the Rome Indoor Tennis Center.
With the matches moved indoors due to inclement weather throughout the state of Georgia, the Lions took advantage of the perfect conditions and delivered a perfect doubles performance while taking all six singles lines in straight sets.
The morning began with perfection as all three Piedmont doubles teams were victorious in 8-0 fashion. Freshmen
KODY DILLS and
LEO GALARZA began the day by rolling at No. 3 while
COOPER KEWORK and
JACKSON TRAYLOR did the same at No. 2 before
SILAS SANDLES and
PATRICK DEMPSEY made it three straight 8-0 wins in doubles.
Singles action brought more of the same as the Lions played all underclassmen on their way to six wins in two sets.
Both Dempsey (6-0, 6-0) and Dills (6-0, 6-0) did not drop a single game on their way to wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Traylor picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, delivering the clincher at 5-0 for the Lions.
Then, after Kework prevailed, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4, Sandles was forced to a tiebreaker in the second set, but won the breaker, 7-1, and kept the straight set streak alive for Piedmont.
The win moves the Lions to 4-1 in conference play.
Up next, Piedmont will conclude its USA South regular season next Saturday, April 17 at LaGrange.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Both
KODY DILLS and
PATRICK DEMPSEY each delivered perfect days, not dropping a single game in doubles or singles.
