VALLEY, Ala. - The Piedmont women's tennis team outlasted NAIA Point University, winning a 4-3 thriller on the road Tuesday evening.

Lady Lion senior KARA LANDSIEDEL won a grueling match at No. 4 singles to lift PC over the top. With the match tied, 3-3, Landsiedel took the deciding set, 6-4, after falling in a heartbreaking second-set tiebreaker.

Playing by NAIA rules, the Lady Lions once again used a strong doubles performance to start the match off with a lead going into singles. After PC's No. 1 doubles team of MAGGIE MOODY and MEGAN WALDHEIM fell, 6-3, the team rebounded with a key 6-4 win from Landsiedel and ABBEY GRACE VENHAM at No. 3 before IMANI VINCENT and MELISSA GISH continued their strong run by taking a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), to propel the Lady Lions to a 1-0 lead after doubles.

The Lady Lions kept the momentum going to begin singles as Vincent took a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1. The SkyHawks answered back with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 to cut their deficit to 2-1. Point was then able to take a marathon three-setter at No. 2 to even the score at 2-2.

Piedmont's ABBEY GRACE VENHAM held match point at No. 4, but fell in a second-set tiebreaker and then dropped the third set to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of Point.

MELISSA GISH swung the momentum back to PC's side with a convincing win at No. 6 singles, which left Landsiedel's match at No. 4 as the decider. The senior from Woodstock, Gerogia won a tiebreaker in the first set before dropping the second set breaker and then outlasting Point's Joanna Gallman, 6-4, to give the match to Piedmont.

Up next, the Lady Lions will play host to Maryville this Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m.
