NEED TO KNOW:

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's tennis team rolled past Maryville for a 9-0 Senior Day victory on Saturday afternoon in Demorest.

The win improves the Lady Lions to 2-0 in conference play with both wins coming by a 9-0 margin.

Prior to the match, the Piedmont senior class for 2020 and 2021 was honored for their contributions to the program. The group of CAROLINE CONNELLY, MORGAN BUCHHOLZ, KARA LANDSIEDEL, MAGGIE MOODY and MEGAN WALDHEIM all have set numerous records and have led the program to new heights.

With Maryville having only five available players, the Lady Lions took No. 3 doubles by default before not dropping a single game at No. 2 as RACHEL MARSH and Landsiedel cruised.

The senior duo of Waldheim and Moody was pushed to the brink at No. 1 doubles, but the pair came through with an 8-7 win, taking the tiebreaker to help PC pull off the clean sweep heading to singles.

With the Lady Lions taking the match at No. 6 by default, they needed just one more win to clinch the match, which was provided by Landsiedel, who rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4.

From there, Piedmont was perfect throughout, as IMANI VINCENT, Waldheim, Moody and MELISSA GISH each did not drop a single game on their way to two-set wins.

So far this season, the Lady Lions have not dropped a single game in USA South single competition.

Up next, PC will take to the road and remain in conference play with a battle against Brevard next Friday, March 19 at 2 p.m.
