BREVARD, N.C. - The Piedmont women's tennis team took a pair of road matches at Brevard over Friday evening and Saturday morning.

The Lady Lions began the weekend by taking on the Tornados in conference play beginning Friday evening before darkness and rain forced the match to be completed Saturday morning with PC prevailing 7-2. The teams then competed again on Saturday in nonconference action as the Lady Lions earned the 9-0 shutout to complete the season series.

Match 1: Piedmont 7, Brevard 2

Battling through a rain delay and having to complete the match on Saturday morning, Piedmont improved to 3-0 in conference play with a 7-2 win to open the weekend.

Beginning the match on a rainy Friday afternoon, it did not take the Lady Lions long to quickly establish control of the match. Piedmont was able to sweep matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles as the teams of MEGAN WALDHEIM/MAGGIE MOODY and MARION SLOYAN and IMANI VINCENT each did not drop a game on the way to easy victories. It was not much harder at No. 2 doubles as KARA LANDSIEDEL and ABBEY GRACE VENHAM cruised to an 8-1 victory.

With a 3-0 lead heading to singles, IMANI VINCENT continued her dominant run, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 to put PC within a point of clinching the win. The clincher came in the form of a 6-3, 6-2 win from Landsiedel at No. 3 before Waldheim and RACHEL MARSH each picked up two-set wins to put the score at 7-0.

Both Sloyan and ALLISON DEMPSEY were in hard-fought matches at No.4 and No. 6 before darkness caused play to be halted Friday evening. When play picked up Saturday morning, the Tornados were able to take both matches to make the final score 7-2.

Match 2: Piedmont 9, Brevard 0

With the conference match in the books, Piedmont brought an even more impressive display to the courts for the second match.

Much like Friday afternoon, the Lady Lions cruised to three wins in doubles action. The dynamic duo of Vincent and MELISSA GISH delivered an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 before Waldheim and Moody rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 1. Venham and Landsiedel then provided the 3-0 lead with an 8-4 win at No. 3.

The Lady Lions then delivered a dominant performance throughout singles, not losing more than a game in a single set across all six lines.

After Venham delivered a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4, Moody delivered the clincher at 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 3.

Playing out the rest of the matches, Gish (6-1 6-0),  Landsiedel (6-1, 6-0), Waldheim (6-1 6-1) and Vincent (6-1, 6-1) each cruised to straight-set wins to help Piedmont earn another 9-0 win over a USA South opponent.

Up next, the Lady Lions are back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. with another road match, this time against Pfeiffer in nonconference play.
