Season Preview: Volleyball

The Piedmont volleyball team is set to begin its spring 2021 campaign Tuesday hosting Wesleyan inside Cave Arena at 5 & 7 p.m. The event can be viewed on the Piedmont Athletics YouTube Channel.

  • The 2021 spring slate currently features 15 contests with eight conference matches scheduled.
  • Several conference opponents will be double features with a non-conference contest following the conference match.
  • Piedmont is scheduled for eight home matches across four home dates.
  • While the schedule features some non-conference matches, no non-conference foes appear on the spring schedule.
  • The postseason format for the USA South is divisional with a first round matchup on April 14 and divisional championship on April 17.

  • It's been well-over a year since the Piedmont Volleyball team has hit the court for collegiate competition with no fall 2020 schedule.
    • The last match for the Lady Lions came on November 5, 2019.
  • In that 2019 season, Piedmont posted a 6-8 mark in conference play and a 5-3 record inside Cave Arena.
  • The Lady Lions were led by Alina Roberts and Erica Balkcum who combined for over 500 kills.
  • Piedmont returns its leader in kills from the 2019 season as Alina Roberts will compete in her senior season this spring. 
  • Jessica Beil is the team's leading returner in digs after collecting 292 in 2019 behind then senior Lainey Choiniere. 
  • Setter will be the key position to fill as Piedmont's primary setters from the 2019 roster have all moved on including 2019 senior Ali Wilkins.
  • The Lady Lions have added seven freshmen to the 2021 roster.

  • Head Coach Jamie McCormack enters her fifth season leading the program.
    • McCormack helped guide the Lady Lions to the USA South Championship game in 2018.
    • She has led eight players to USA South All-Conference honors. 
  • Assistant Coach Rachel Selmore enters her third season with the Lady Lions.
    • Selmore has helped the Lady Lions to the conference tournament each year on staff.
  • Assistant Athletic Trainer Stephanie Smart serves as the volleyball trainer and is in her second season at Piedmont.
