THE MOMENTS THAT MATTER

Anna Lassiter and Trey Martin
It was one of the most memorable moments in my coaching career to be able to watch her overcome so much adversity and then coming back to compete. People can read the story and think how hard it must be, but seeing it first hand, I don't know how she does it. I keep telling her weekly the results on the court don't matter, the fact you being back on the court, cancer free, wearing the Piedmont uniform is already the win.
Trey Martin, Head Women's Tennis Coach
"Ringing the Bell" for Anna was one of the most memorable moments for me in my 23 years working at Piedmont. The real joy that all the student-athletes, coaches and support staff from all our teams who came that evening to see her ring the bell spoke to one of our athletic department's values of "Family" and what a great example of that value being put into action.  I will remember that night for the rest of my life.
Jim Peeples, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
Anna Lassiter and Lizzie Ivey
I have learned that no matter how “small” the accomplishment is in the grand scheme of life, any accomplishment is something to celebrate. Anna has taught me that even on your worst days, there is always something worth being grateful for. She has been a constant reminder to me that the little things in life can be the most meaningful, and to hug your friends tight!

THE GRATITUDE

THE ADVERSITY

For me the thing that seemed to be a common theme for fall sports teams and our department was how everyone handled adversity and dealt with the challenges we had to navigate this fall.

Women's volleyball handling a coaching change at the beginning of their season but continuing to work and improve with interim coaches was something that made me very proud.  The upperclassman on that team provided tremendous leadership for their younger teammates that will leave an impact for the future.
Jim Peeples
The women's soccer team overcoming so many challenges from injuries to key players and navigating the season to finish second in the regular season was such a credit to our coaches and all the young ladies in the program.
