FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Piedmont women's tennis team swept all three doubles lines, leading to a 6-3 road win over Methodist in nonconference action Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Lions were able to take all three doubles matches and split the six singles lines to earn the victory.

Freshman ABBEY GRACE VENHAM delivered the clinching win for Piedmont, with a dominant 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.

However, the momentum for the match was established with excellent doubles play from PC. First, the No. 3 doubles team of Venham and KARA LANDSIEDEL cruised to an 8-2 victory at No. 3 before the duo of MELISSA GISH and IMANI VINCENT took care of business with an 8-4 win at No. 2.

That left No. 1 doubles, in a closely contested match, for Piedmont to sweep all three lines. The duo of MAGGIE MOODY and MEGAN WALDHEIM stepped up in a big way, outlasting Methodist's Abby Caddick and Sydni Lewis for an 8-6 win to give the Lady Lions more room for error in singles. The win moves Moody into first in program history in career doubles wins.

Methodist finally put a point on the board with a win at No. 3 singles, but the Lady Lions answered with a pair of wins to clinch the match. First, IMANI VINCENT delivered a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 1 before Venham clinched at No. 5.

With the match in hand, the Monarchs kept fighting, picking up three of the final four lines as PC's MELISSA GISH closed out the festivities with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6.

Up next, the Lady Lions will remain on the road to battle Point this Tuesday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Moody and Waldheim's 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles gave PC the clean sweep and a 3-0 lead heading to singles.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Venham delivered the clincher at No. 5 singles, moving her to 4-1 in singles in her Piedmont career.
- Vincent's win at No. 1 doubles moves her to 4-3 in the No. 1 slot in the lineup.
