BEREA, Ky. - The Piedmont women's soccer team dominated for the second consecutive game, rolling to a 7-0 road win at Berea on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions (6-6, 4-1 USA South) struck for four goals in the first half and added three more in the second while securing their second straight shutout.
Three Piedmont players tallied two goals each in the win, with
KAYLEE KING netting the game-winner in the seventh minute while freshman
GABBIE HAYES and sophomore
KATELYN SMITH also scored twice with
SARAH FISHER adding the remaining goal, scoring in her second straight contest.
It did not take the Lady Lions long to jump in front as King delivered her first of the day and fourth of the season in the game's seventh minute. Then, just over 30 seconds later, Fisher found Hayes to increase the margin to 2-0 not even 10 minutes into the contest.
For PC, the scoring onslaught continued in the first half, with King striking again, this time thanks to a feed from
AMANDA WEINHART, for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Finally, just before half, the Lady Lions erased all doubt as Fisher tallied a three-point first half off freshman
EMMA WILLIAMS' first career assist.
However, the Lady Lions were not finished, as Smith found the back of the net for the first time this season just over five minutes into the second. Then, just like in the first half, an early goal was quickly followed by a strike from Hayes, this time just over a minute later as her second of the day put the Berea deficit at 6-0.
Smith then added her second of the day to cap the PC scoring in the 69th minute.
Goalkeeper
MIRANDA MCNALLEY earned the win for Piedmont, as the Lady Lions held their opponent without a single shot for the second straight game.
Piedmont dominated the shot count, 13-0, converting seven of those into goals.
Up next, the Lady Lions will return home to battle Agnes Scott, looking to win their fourth straight game. The contest is scheduled for Friday, March 12 at 7 p.m.
