MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Despite a hot start, the Piedmont College men's basketball team ended its season in the USA South West Division Championship with an 81-54 loss to Maryville.

The Lions were hot out of the gate going up 16-9 with 12:50 to play and led 20-12 with under 10:00 to go until the half. The Lions' defense was stifling to that point, but Maryville broke out over the final 10:00 of the first half to outscore Piedmont 23-7 including a 16-0 run.

Five of Piedmont's seven down the stretch of the first half came in the final minute as JUSTIN QUICK made a jumper and RYAN JOLLY drained a 3-pointer just before the break.

It was a double-digit lead for Maryville through much of the second half, but the breakaway came again in the back half of the period as the Scots held Piedmont scoreless from the floor over a three minute stretch and built a 23-point lead.

Both teams committed 20 or more turnovers but it was the Scots who were able to convert those into points with 34 points off turnovers to Piedmont's 10. The Scots also out-rebounded Piedmont by 20.

TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont led 20-12 with 9:51 to play in the first half, but the Scots used a 16-0 run to put momentum on their side and never trailed from that point on.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

--MICHAEL JOSEPH closed out his career with the Lions adding four points.
