DEMOREST, Ga. - On a beautiful Friday afternoon at the Burgen Tennis Courts, the Piedmont women's tennis team did not drop a single game on its way to a 9-0 shutout win over Agnes Scott.
The win moves the Lady Lions to 1-0 in conference play and serves as a tune up for Sunday's showdown at Methodist.
With the Scotties only having five available players, Piedmont was able to take No. 3 doubles by default. Then,
MAGGIE MOODY and
MEGAN WALDHEIM cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles before
KAITLYN HOUSE and
WREN GREUBEL did the same at No. 2 doubles.
The doubles win ties Moody for the career program record for doubles wins, putting her just ahead of teammate
KARA LANDSIEDEL. House and Greubel's victory at No. 2 doubles served as both's first career win for the Lady Lions.
With a 3-0 lead heading into singles and PC able to win the No. 6 line by default, Piedmont needed just one win to clinch the match, which it got early at No.2, as freshman
MELISSA GISH won her match by taking the first, 6-0, before her opponent retired.
With the match in hand, Piedmont remained perfect as freshman
MARION SLOYAN cruised at No. 3 singles before
IMANI VINCENT continued her dominant run with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own at No. 1.
Playing at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, sophomore
TYLER PERRY and freshman
BROOK PATTON each picked up their first wins for Piedmont with 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Up next, the Lady Lions will take on Methodist in nonconference action. The match is scheduled for Sunday, March 7 at 11 a.m. in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
