MARSHALL, Texas – The Piedmont women's soccer team fell in a 3-2 heartbreaker as East Texas Baptist scored with just over two minutes remaining in the second overtime period on Friday night in Texas.
Â
The Lady Lions (0-1) struck first but allowed two unanswered goals to fall into a quick deficit. However, Piedmont rallied back, netting the equalizer with just over four minutes left in the first half before the Tigers (2-0) scored the game-decider in the 108th minute.
Â
Seeing the field for the first time since early November of 2019, the Lady Lions wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as
KATY BROWN found sophomore
KAYLEE KING whose shot from just outside the box found the back of the net.
Â
Unfortunately, the advantage did not last long for Piedmont. ETBU answered almost immediately, scoring just over three minutes later on Amy Pineda's first of two goals for the contest.
Â
The Tigers were able to push ahead with a goal in the 29th minute.Â
Â
The Lady Lions were able to battle back, seizing momentum just before the half on sophomore
SARAH FISHER's first career goal.
Â
From there, both teams tightened up its defensive throughout the second half as the game was scoreless the next 60+ plus minutes.
Â
However, ETBU secured the game-winner with just over 10 minutes to go in the second overtime period on Pineda's strike from 10 yards out, her second goal of the game.
Â
The Lady Lions were outshot, 13-9, but the tally was even at 8-8 for shots on goal.
Â
Up next, the Lady Lions will remain in Texas, playing two games on Sunday, starting with a 2 p.m. (ET) tilt against LeTourneau.
