GAINESVILLE, Ga. - The Piedmont women's tennis team competed for the third consecutive day, falling at Brenau, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville.
The Lady Lions (2-4) battled in doubles, taking a line at No. 3, but were unable to put a point on the board with doubles being counted as one decision.
The Golden Tigers (2-1) began the afternoon with a convincing 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles before PC's No. 3 doubles team of
RACHEL MARSH and
KARA LANDSIEDEL outlasted Brenau at No. 3 to even the doubles at 1-1. However, PC was unable to secure the point with a win at No. 1 giving the Golden Tigers momentum heading into singles.
Piedmont was unable to take a singles line as five of the six players in the lineup were freshmen or sophomores.
Playing at No. 1 singles, sophomore
IMANI VINCENT took the first set, 6-3, before dropping the second and losing the match in a super breaker.
Fresh off a win at No. 3 doubles, Marsh delivered a valiant effort at No. 6 singles, losing a hard-fought tiebreaker in the first set before falling in the second.
Up next, the Lady Lions will make their long-awaited home debut this coming Friday, March 5 in their USA South opener against Agnes Scott. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Burgen Tennis Courts on the campus of Piedmont College.
