MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Piedmont women's soccer team fell, 2-0, at Maryville on Saturday night, suffering its first loss in conference play this season.

The Lady Lions (2-4, 1-1 USA South) saw their offense stifled by a tough Maryville defense as they were unable to register a shot on goal in the contest.

The Scots (2-0, 2-0 USA South) held an 11-1 shot advantage at halftime but were unable to break through in the first 45 minutes.

However, it did not take them long to strike in the second half, as Taylor Frizen put away a low cross in the 54th minute to give the Scots the only goal they needed.

As Piedmont continued to struggle to generate offense, Maryville put the game out of reach in the 81st minute as Katie O'Brien gathered and fired a strike to the back of the net.

Despite the loss, the Lady Lions will be back in action soon, returning home to host Berry tomorrow at 6 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Taylor Frizen's early second half goal proved to be all the Scots needed in the shutout victory.

NEWS AND NOTES:
- The Scots have now won three consecutive regular season matchups between the two teams. The Lady Lions did defeat Maryville to win the 2018 USA South Tournament Championship.
