Women's Soccer Drops 3-2 2OT Heartbreaker to BSC

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Birmingham-Southern 3, Piedmont 2 (2OT)
Records: Birmingham-Southern, 1-1; Piedmont, 2-3

DEMOREST, Ga. - Despite holding the lead on two separate occasions, the Piedmont women's soccer team fell, 3-2, in the second overtime period to Birmingham-Southern on a cold, overcast Sunday afternoon in Demorest, Georgia.

The Lady Lions (2-3) struck first in each half, but the Panthers (1-1) answered each time and found the back of the net for the game winner in the 103rd minute to claim the victory.

Piedmont was able to control possession in the early going and eventually opened the scoring as KAYLEE KING found KAITY HEMPERLY in the 14th minute.

Both teams were able to generate good looks throughout the first half, but the Lady Lions remained out front, 1-0, and held a 10-7 shot advantage at the break.

However, BSC struck quickly as Abby Walker found the back of the net just 25 seconds into the second half.

The Lady Lions retook the lead a little over 20 minutes later as AVERY PERRY's beautiful cross was headed in by AMANDA WEINHART. Unfortunately, once again the Panthers had the answer. This time, it was a perfectly placed corner from Amelia Dodds that was headed home by Abby Kay Choate for the equalizer.

Neither side was able to break the tie in regulation or the first overtime period, but Walker was able to break loose just over two minutes into the second OT and beat PC goalkeeper MIRANDA MCNALLEY to lift the Panthers past the Lady Lions.

Up next, Piedmont will take to the road and step back into USA South play as it battles Maryville this Friday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m.
