Washington’s Big Night Leads Lady Lions to 104-36 Rout of Wesleyan

DEMOREST, Ga. – Behind a career-high 29 points from NAKIYAH WASHINGTON, the Piedmont women's basketball rolled past Wesleyan, 104-36, on Friday night at Cave Arena.
 
The win pushes the Lady Lions to a perfect 5-0 in USA South play with all five wins coming by double digits.
 
After the Wolves (2-4, 2-4 USA South) opened the scoring with a Jasmine Williams three-pointer on their opening possession, Piedmont scored twice in the next 34 seconds and led from that point on.
 
Washington's 29 points came on a perfect 15-of-15 from the foul line. Her 15 made free throws sets a single-game program record for the Lady Lions.
 
The sophomore forward from Adairsville also pulled down a season-best 11 rebounds while coming up just one steal shy of a triple-double with nine.
 
Overall, 13 Lady Lions put points on the board with four reaching double figures.
 
Piedmont (7-3, 5-0 USA South) scored 12 unanswered points in the first quarter after Wesleyan struck first and led 25-9 heading to the second quarter.
 
The Lady Lions continued to extend their lead with dominant play on both ends of the floor in the second quarter and led by 28 at the break.
 
The second half brought about an onslaught from beyond the arc as Piedmont was 9-of-16 from deep with four coming from COLBY REED, who led the team with 12 points in the final 20 minutes.
 
Piedmont outscored the Wolves, 60-20, in the second half to secure its largest margin of victory of the season.
 
The win marks the second time this season the team has reached 100 points.
 
The teams will battle again tomorrow at 2 p.m. to conclude the season series.
 
TURNING POINT:
- After Wesleyan jumped ahead 3-0, the Lady Lions quickly answered with a 12-0 run and never looked back, leading by double digits the majority of the contest.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Washington delivered an outstanding all-around performance, scoring 29 points to go with 11 rebounds, nine steals and four assists while making a school record 15-of-15 from the foul line.
- HOPE FRANKLIN recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
- COLBY REED banked a career-best four three-pointers and finished with a season-high 12 points, all in the second half.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Piedmont secured 66 rebounds, three shy of a program record, with 37 of those rebounds being offensive.
- 10 of NAKIYAH WASHINGTON's 11 rebounds were offensive.
- Piedmont's 10 three-pointers made was a season-high.
 
OF NOTE:
The win marks the second time in the past three season that the Lady Lions have started USA South play 5-0.
