MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After trailing by as many as nine in the second half, the Piedmont College men's basketball team rallied for a 74-71 win at Huntingdon College. In the final four minutes of the game, both teams made just one shot from the floor as defense proved to be the difference at the end.
It was a low scoring affair with neither team reaching double digits until the 14:29 mark in the first half when the Hawks took an 11-8 lead. The Lions were held scoreless for over three minutes but reeled off three straight baskets to take a 15-14 lead.
The Lions were held scoreless again over a four minute stretch while Huntingdon was only able to manage a five point lead. Piedmont clawed back and led by as many as five late in the half and took a 32-30 lead into the break.
ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS tied the game at 34 in the second half with Piedmont's first basket after the break. The Hawks reeled off nine straight to claim a 43-34 lead, the largest of the game.
Piedmont fought back and managed to tie the game at 48 on a
JORDAN FOOTE layup. The Hawks would again stretch the lead to nine points, but again, the Lions clawed back to tie the contest at 61.
The Lions scored eight straight during that run to lead 65-61, but with just under 5:00 to go, Huntingdon banked a 3-pointer to lead 66-65. It was a back-and-forth battle with neither team leading by more than a single point until Clements-Owens banked a 3-pointer to take the lead for good.
The Hawks were at the charity stripe with two seconds remaining trailing 72-70, but Dylan Bohling converted just 1-of-2 from the line and
RYAN JOLLY made a pair on the opposite end of the court to seal the win in the final second.
