DEMOREST. Ga. – Despite having just eight players see the court on Thursday, the Piedmont men's basketball team held tough in a 79-70 loss to North Carolina Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops used a late run to close out the contest and steal it away at the end.
After trailing early in the contest, the Lions took the lead 22-21 on a
JORDAN FOOTE layup with 7:39 remaining in the first half. An
EVAN EASTON 3-pointer put the Lions ahead 28-24 and a pair of free throws by him moments later then extended the lead to six at 30-24.
Piedmont took a 40-34 lead into the break with Easton leading all scorers with 15 points in 16 minutes of play.
JORDAN FOOTE scored his 1,000th career point with 2:20 remaining in the first half.
N.C. Wesleyan outscored Piedmont by 15 in the second half, but the Lions held the lead for the first seven minutes of play. The Battling Bishops tied the contest at 50 before Piedmont raced ahead to lead by 10 66-56 with 5:44 to play.
The gas ran out at that point and the Lions were coasting to the finish as Piedmont was held scoreless for nearly five minutes down the stretch. N.C. Wesleyan took the lead with 3:37 to play and held on for the win.
TURNING POINT:
--The Battling Bishops rallied in the final six minutes of play to outscore Piedmont 23-4 and claim the win.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

JORDAN FOOTE scored his 1,000th career point as a Lion in the first half with a basket on a goal-tending call with 2:20 on the clock.
--Foote ended the game with 22 points and 12 rebounds with a game-high in each category.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Two additional Lions scored in double figures with Easton adding 19 and
JUSTIN QUICK scoring 17.
UP NEXT:
--The Lions return to action Sunday in Florida taking on Penn State Altoona in Daytona Beach.
