MCMINNVILLE, OR – Piedmont University's men's basketball team put up a good fight on Friday night in a fast-paced contest with Linfield University, but couldn't keep pace late as the Wildcats defended their home floor with a 64-52 win.
The Wildcats did not keep their game plan a secret as they totaled 50 three-point attempts out of 56 total shots from the floor. Linfield connected on 15 of those attempts, including nine makes in the second half.
Trey Bryant, Aaron Baune, and Max Lommen led the way for the victors as each of them scored 14 points in the contest while combining to make 11 three-pointers.
Despite an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double from senior
JORDAN FOOTE, the Lions couldn't weather the late surge from the Wildcats as the home team dominated the final eight minutes to grow the 12-point lead.
Piedmont played from behind for seemingly all of the first half, but chipped away to tie the game at 24-24 heading to the break. Out of half, the Lions took the raucous crowd out of the equation with an 8-0 run to start the frame.
Foote connected on each of his first four shots to start the half, and a three-pointer from senior
JUSTIN QUICK helped to get Piedmont out in front.
The Lions led for a majority of the second half with the largest lead being the early eight-point margin. With Piedmont leading by six with eight minutes to play, the Wildcats scored the game's next 11 points to spark a 24-6 run to finish out the game.
Piedmont went cold down the stretch and mad just two field goals in the final eight minutes, allowing Linfield to secure the win late.
TURNING POINT:
-- After a pair of threes tied the game for Linfield, Max Lommen's dunk to put the Wildcats up by two with 5:30 to play ignited the crowd at the Linfield squad. Linfield did not trail after that point.
