LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Piedmont cross country runner
VAL ANGEL finished 169
th at the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country National Championship race on Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky.
Angel's time of 22:53.9 eclipsed her own previous school record by eight seconds and is the only 6k time in school history to clock in at less that 23 minutes.
The senior from Duluth is the first Piedmont cross country runner ever to compete at the Division III national championship meet. Last week at the NCAA South Regional, Angel finished the 6k race in eighth place to qualify for the race.
She also earned USTFCCCA All-Region status with the top-10 finish.
Qualifying for the championship race was the final accolade in Angel's spectacular cross country career. On top of her regional and national championship performances this season, Angel also defender her title from last season by winning the USA South Conference Championship on October 30.
Angel concludes her Piedmont cross country career as a two-time conference champion and a two time all-conference Second Team honoree, a three-time USA South All-Academic Team member, and a USTFCCCA All-Region runner.
