DEMOREST, Ga. - Closing in on the final minute of the second overtime period, senior MANDY WEINHART finished a short cross from KAYLEE KING to send the Piedmont women's soccer team home victorious over Maryville on Friday night at the Walker Athletic Complex.

Despite falling behind, 1-0, in the first half, the Lady Lions battled back to equalize early in the second half on ANYA OLSON's second goal of the season and kept the game tied at 1-1 until Weinhart ended the festivities in the 109th minute with her second goal in as many games.

The goal for Weinhart marked the 14th of her career and her sixth game-winner, this one in the most dramatic fashion.

Prior to the game, Weinhart, JULIA GIB, MARGARET GREENWALD, CAITLYN WORTHY, TORI ROPER, MADISON COMER and KATELYN SMITH were honored as part of Senior Night for their contributions to the program.

The Scots were able to control possession in the early going and eventually broke through as Kelsey Green slipped one past Piedmont goalkeeper LAILA ALLEN in the 15th minute to break the scoreless tie.

The score remained at 1-0 in favor of Maryville going to the break as the Scots held an 11-3 shot advantage.

It did not take long for the Lady Lions to equalize out of haltime, as Olson delivered a top left strike off a blocked shot off the foot of Weinhart to even things up in the 48th minute.

From there, the tension continued to build with both sides defending at a high level as the game was not decided after 90 minutes.

Neither side was able to create great scoring chances in the first overtime. However, the Scots put the pressure down midway through the second overtime period, but Allen was on the spot for the Lady Lions, making a pair of critical saves.

Finally, with time dwindling down, KAYLEE KING was able to beat her defender and gain just enough space for the short cross that found Weinhart streaking up the middle of the field.and the senior put away the game winner to the near post and sent the Lady Lions home victorious.

Up next, the Lady Lions have another pivotal USA South showdown as they host Covenant next Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
