DEMOREST, Ga. – Piedmont University's women's soccer team celebrated homecoming in style with a mid-week 3-0 victory over conference foe Wesleyan, moving the Lady Lions one step closer to claiming a top seed in the upcoming USA South conference tournament.

Three different Lions accounted for the team's three goals, helping to earn the team its fifth win in a row. Piedmont improves to 6-1 in conference play with the win, padding its lead in the west division standings with just a week remaining in the regular season.

Piedmont wasted no time getting on the board on Wednesday as sophomore GABBIE HAYES used a fortunate bounce to score the first goal of the contest in just the fifth minute.

Hayes' shot from the right corner careened off a Wolves defender and into the goal to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.

Shortly thereafter, a perfect leading pass from sophomore MARISSA TAGHON set up freshman VICTORIA SIERRA with a one-on-one opportunity with Wesleyan keeper Angel Lockett. Sierra won the battle, finding the back of the net for her second goal of the year to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage in just the eighth minute.

The Lions added one more first-half goal for good measure in the 36th minute as the offense found its way to one of the team's eight corner kicks.

Junior KAYLEE KING placed the corner kick pass right in front the net, leaving senior KATY BROWN with a header attempt that bounced off the ground first, then banged off the bottom of the crossbar and pass the goal line for Brown's first goal of the season.

With a 3-0 advantage in hand, the Lions cycled through lineups to get most everyone a run in front of a packed homecoming crowd. Those lineups packed it in on defense to hold off any second-half comeback hopes the Wolves had.
