MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Piedmont women's soccer team was at it again winning in overtime for the third straight contest with a 3-2 victory over Huntingdon. This time, it was out of necessity after a last second goal by the Hawks to tie the contest in the 90th minute, but
JULIA GIB played the role of hero Saturday netting the gamewinner in the 97th minute.Â
The Lady Lions were the only ones on the board in the first half as
JULIA GIB capitalized in the 42nd minute for her first goal of the season off an
ABBY JUDGE corner kick. It was not for a lack of opportunities that the Hawks were kept off the board in the first half as a penalty kick in the 12th minute was a promising opportunity for the Hawks, but it was missed and saved by
LAILA ALLEN.Â
Allen posted three saves in the first half and six total in the contest. The Hawks evened the score in the 74th minute, but
BREANNA NINEÂ ensured that tie would not last long.Â
She scored just 36 seconds later to reclaim the lead for Piedmont 2-1. With what looked to be a victory locked up, the Lady Lions were cruising to their fifth straight victory, but Huntingdon was not going down without a fight. The Hawks scored in the 90th minute with just 34 seconds remaining to knot it up and force overtime.Â
In OT, the Hawks got the first shot off with Allen making yet another save.
JULIA GIB got to have the spotlight all to herself with the gamewinning goal in the 97th minute to secure the fifth straight victory and third straight for Piedmont in overtime.Â
Overall, Huntingdon had 11 shots to Piedmont's eight in the contest, marking the third straight game that Piedmont's opponent has tallied more shots, but the Lady Lions are 3-0 in overtime during that stretch.Â
Up next, the Lady Lions will host Wesleyan College at the WAC Wednesday, October 20 at 4 p.m.
