Balanced Attack Leads Piedmont in 3-1 Loss at Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. - The Piedmont volleyball team came up just short Tuesday in a 3-1 loss at Brevard. The Tornados went up 1-0, but Piedmont rallied to tie the match at 1-1 before Brevard pulled away. 

The Tornados took the opening set 25-17, but the Lady Lions claimed the second to even it up 25-22. The final three sets of the match were all decided by a score of 25-22 with Piedmont taking the first of the three and Brevard taking the final two sets. 

The first set was a game of runs as the two sides would rally and make a stretch with Brevard leading 18-11 at one point after an 8-0 run. Brevard took a 5-0 lead in the second set, but the Lady Lions were not intimidated. 

The Tornados led 16-12 before Piedmont made a 6-0 run to take an 18-16 lead forcing a Brevard timeout. The set was tied at 22 before Piedmont sealed the win with the final three points of the set. TAYLOR HERRMANN had a kill in the final points and a service ace by HANNAH KATE CHADWELL sealed the win. 

The Lady Lions led 10-3 in the third set and led as late as 16-10, but the Tornados stormed back to take the set and a 2-1 advantage. Piedmont again was able to maintain an early lead in the fourth set, but Brevard outlasted the Lady Lions scoring six of the last seven points. 

Up next, the Lady Lions will be in action at LaGrange for a USA South trimatch on Saturday. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-- Piedmont had three athletes with 10 kills each as BRI KING, JACLYN SAMPSON, and JENNA ASH all added 10 kills Tuesday. 
-- JESSICA BEIL led the team with 29 of Piedmont's 79 digs. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
-- Piedmont led statistically in several categories including kills, digs, assists and aces.
