DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's basketball team attempted another second half comeback Saturday but came up short in a 67-62 loss on the road at LaGrange. The Lions move to .500 on the season and in league play sitting at 5-5 and 2-2 in the USA South.
RYAN JOLLY made the first basket of the night, but that was the only lead the Lions would have as LaGrange took control early. The Panthers led by as many as eight in the first six minutes.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by
ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS kept the Lions within striking distance, but LaGrange was matching Piedmont's efforts with deep shots of their own eventually building a 28-15 lead.
The Lions continued to fight over the waning minutes of the first half, but LaGrange took a 41-29 lead into halftime. Jolly had just seven points in the first half but would add 16 to his total in the second half.
Piedmont cut into the lead as Jolly got it to a single-digit deficit trailing 43-35 with 16:21 to play. Jolly connected on a 3-pointer four minutes later to make it 47-41 and just a six point game.
The Lions kept LaGrange from getting back to a double-digit lead over the next few minutes and cut the lead to four on a
JORDAN FOOTE layup with 6:29 remaining. That was as close as Piedmont would get until inside the final minute when
JUSTIN QUICK converted two free throws to make it a three point game.
Piedmont went on a 9-0 run late in the game, but it was too little too late as they were unable to overtake the Panthers.
TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont's only lead came at 2-0 in the game and the Panthers controlled the contest by as many as 15 late in the first half.

RYAN JOLLY again led Piedmont with 23 points as he has scored 21 or more points in each of his four USA South games this season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Piedmont cleaned up its game Saturday with only 12 turnovers compared to Friday's 27.
UP NEXT:
--Piedmont is set to head to Covenant Friday at 6 p.m. for the first of two games over the weekend.
