SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team was victorious over Hanover as the teams battled into the early hours of Saturday morning in Sewanee, Tennessee.
The Lady Lions (2-0) swept doubles and took five of the six singles matches in straight sets to start their spring season off in style.
Playing No. 1 doubles,
CAROLINE CONNELLY and
MEGAN WALDHEIM wasted no time, dispatching their opponents, 8-1, to put a quick point on the board for Piedmont. They were quickly followed by another 8-1 win at No. 3 from freshmen
IMANI VINCENT and
DAKOTA WILKES. Finally, the team finished off the clean doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory from
KARA LANDSIEDEL and
SAMANTHA LOWRY at No. 2.
PC was able to carry that momentum into singles action with Waldheim giving it a 4-0 lead after a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2.
After battling to win her first set, 7-5, Connelly rolled to a 6-0 win in the second set to clinch the match for the Lady Lions at 5-0.
From there, Piedmont racked up three more wins with the freshmen Vincent and Wilkes each picking up two-set victories to cap off a perfect day.
Up next, the Lady Lions will be right back in action later this afternoon, battling Sewanee at 2 p.m. (ET).
