BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In an offensive performance for the ages, the Piedmont women's basketball team raced past Birmingham-Southern, 138-112, on Thursday afternoon at the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic in Birmingham.

Numerous team and individual scoring records fell as the Lady Lions tallied a program-record 138 points in the game.
Â
Individually, sophomore forward
HOPE FRANKLIN set a new school record with 41 points and finished one shy of the record with 20 rebounds.
LIVIA SKINNER delivered a cool 37 points on 17-0f-24 shooting. Her 17 field goals made is a new program record. Franklin tied the previous record of 14.

NAKIYAH WASHINGTON finished a rebound shy of a double-double, pouring in 25 points to go with nine rebounds while freshman guard
LU WOOLFOLK nearly produced a triple-double, scoring 10 points, dishing out 10 assists and grabbing eight rebounds.

The pace was fast and furious from the opening tip as Franklin scored her first field goal just six seconds into the contest. The Panthers used an 8-0 run midway through the opening period to gain the early edge and led by as many as nine points before the Lady Lions closed the gap to 39-36 heading to the second.

Piedmont was able to grab the lead back early in the second quarter and led for much of the period taking a 63-60 advantage into halftime.

BSC held within striking distance out of the break but the Lady Lions began to gain control of the contest midway through the third. PC was able to take its first double-digit lead of the afternoon on a Skinner jumper with 5:15 left in the period as the lead grew to as many as 20 points late in the third. The Lady Lions reached the 100-point mark with 1:17 left in the third quarter and took a 101-83 lead with 10 minutes remaining.

The final result was never in doubt throughout the final quarter with Piedmont holding a comfortable margin. The Lady Lions continually took advantage of the Panthers' full-court press and finished at a high rate inside the paint to run away with the win and set numerous program record in the process.

PC scored an astounding 100 points in the paint and reached its 138-point total without the benefit of a single three-pointer.

Up next, the Lady Lions will conclude their stay in Birmingham by battling familiar foe East Texas Baptist tomorrow at 2 p.m.Â

TURNING POINT:
- The Lady Lions made their move in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers, 38-23, to take complete control of the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

HOPE FRANKLIN: The sophomore forward was 14-of-19 from the field, 13-of-15 from the free throw line and scored a school record 41 points. Her 20 rebounds was one shy of a school record and she delivered the first 40-point, 20-rebound performance in team history.

LIVIA SKINNER: The junior guard finished with 37 points, two short of the previous school record. Skinner also set the new program record with 17 field goals made.

NAKIYAH WASHINGTON: The Adairsville, Georgia native scored 25 points and added nine rebounds in just 23 minutes of action.

LU WOOLFOLK: Nearly produced a triple double in just her fourth collegiate game, finishing with 10 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.

OF NOTE:
- The teams combined for 250 points which is a new NCAA Division III record.
- Piedmont's 138 total points ranks fifth in NCAA DIII history for points in a single game. It is also the second-most points any team has scored in a Division III game in the 21st century.
