Lady Lions Conclude Road Trip with 81-64 Loss to East Texas Baptist

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Piedmont women's basketball team concluded play at the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic on Friday afternoon with an 81-64 loss against East Texas Baptist in Birmingham.
 
One day after setting multiple program scoring records, the Lady Lions (2-3) saw their offense held relatively in check against the undefeated Tigers (6-0).
 
HOPE FRANKLIN continued her strong start to the season in the loss, scoring 20 points to go with 10 rebounds and three blocks. LIVIA SKINNER added 13 points while LU WOOLFOLK rounded out the Lady Lions in double figures with her second consecutive 10-point showing.
 
The first quarter was closely contested much of the way with the Tigers holding a slight lead before a late run gave them a 19-13 edge after the first 10 minutes.
 
ETBU continued to hold a slim margin through the second quarter leading by as many as eight points. The Lady Lions were able to stay within striking distance, only trailing by four points at the break.
 
Piedmont battled for much of the third quarter but were unable to shave its deficit inside of four points which is where it stood heading into the final period.
 
ETBU made sure the outcome was never in doubt with a dominant offensive performance in the final 10 minutes. The Tigers outscored the Lady Lions, 28-15, to create the 17-point margin of victory.
 
Piedmont was just 2-of-15 from beyond the arc while ETBU converted on 6-of-18 from long range.
 
TURNING POINT:
- The Tigers used a 16-5 run over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to build a 15-point lead and take control of the contest.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- One day after setting the program record for points in a game, HOPE FRANKLIN delivered another double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while converting 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
NEWS AND NOTES:
- All three of Piedmont's losses this season are to teams from the state of Texas.
