MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team fell, 74-45, at Maryville on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Lions (7-7, 3-2 USA South) struggled to score in the first half as the Scots (10-3, 3-2 USA South) were able to build a 17-point lead at the break.

AMARI PRICEÂ tied for the team lead with 11 points while
EMILY WILEY was the only other Lady Lion in double figures, also scoring 11 points to go with four rebounds.

The game was back-and-forth early with the two teams trading leads in the early going. However, Maryville was able to end the quarter on a 9-0 run and take a 17-8 lead into the second quarter.

The Scots kept the momentum going into the second, taking their first double-digit lead of the game on Courtney Carruthers' three-pointer on the opening possession of the period. After a layup by Price cut PC's deficit to 29-21, Maryville scored the final nine points of the half to take a 38-21 lead into the locker room.

Maryville continued to pour it on in the second half, eventually building its lead to the 20-point margin and not looking back, handing Piedmont its second 20-plus point loss in its last three contests.

Up next, the Lady Lions return home to battle Wesleyan this Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 6 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Maryville's 9-0 run to close out the first quarter helped it establish a comfortable lead that was not threatened the rest of the way.

- In her second game back in the lineup,
AMARI PRICE added 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
