Lady Lions Hold off Brevard 67-58

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 67, Brevard 58
Records: Piedmont, 11-8 (7-3 USA South); Brevard, 5-11 (3-7 USA South)

DEMOREST, Ga. –  BRITTANY WALKER was perfect from the field and the free throw line to lead the Piedmont women's basketball team past Brevard, 67-58, on Wednesday night at Cave Arena.

The senior from Savannah, Georgia tallied a career-high 18 points on 7-of-7 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line to help the Lady Lions (11-8, 7-3 USA South) hold off a pair of Brevard (5-11, 3-7 USA South) second-half rallies.

After the Tornados jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the early minutes, Piedmont used a 13-2 run to take a 15-6 lead midway through the first quarter. However, Brevard was able to cut its deficit to 19-14 heading into the second.

PC captured all the momentum early in the second, using a 10-0 run to open the period and held a 29-14 lead with 7:43 left in the half. The Tornados were able to inch their way back and trailed by nine points going into the locker room.

The Lady Lions' offense stalled in the third quarter, allowing Brevard to creep within a point at 46-45 with 3:56 left in the period. After the Tornados cut their deficit to one point again at 48-47, AMARI PRICE stole the inbounds pass and converted the layup to bring PC's lead back to three points.

From there, the Tornados were unable to get any closer, as Piedmont held them scoreless for a six-minute stretch in the middle of the final quarter.

With under a minute left and the Lady Lions already leading by seven points, EMILY WILEY's three-point play essentially iced the game, giving Piedmont its third consecutive conference win.

Up next, the Lady Lions travel to Covenant to battle the Scots this Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.

- From 8:18 left in the fourth quarter until the 2:19 mark, Piedmont's stifling defense held the Tornados off the scoreboard.
