Lady Lions Open Bradford Classic With 4-1 Win Over Averett

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's soccer team opened the Bradford Classic with a 4-1 victory over Averett University on Saturday afternoon.

Averett (0-4-0) struck first in the game, scoring in the fourth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Lions (2-2-0) would then control the rest of the half, outshooting Averett 14-3.

Following a foul inside the Cougars' 18', DEVIN HAUPT converted a penalty kick to tie the game 1-1 in the 34th minute.

Just over seven minutes later, ABBY COX blasted a shot from 25 yards out to give Piedmont a 2-1 lead in the 40th.

The Lady Lions wasted little time in the second half, as ANYA OLSON scored her first collegiate goal with an assist from Haupt in the 47th minute.

Haupt was able to place a beautiful ball in front from Olson who then flicked the ball over the keeper's head to push Piedmont ahead 3-1.

Less than 10 minutes later, ANSLYN STAMPS scored off a free kick from close to 30 yards out. After an initial save by the Cougars, the Averett keeper caught her own rebound, but crossed the goal line to hand Piedmont its fourth goal of the game.

Piedmont would control the ball for the remainder of the game to close out the win.

MIRANDA MCNALLEY faced four total shots while making two saves and allowing one goal.

Cox and Olson led the way for Piedmont with four shots apiece.
