Piedmont Wins Conference Opener 5-0 Over Wesleyan

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's soccer team opened its USA South Athletic Conference schedule on Thursday with a 5-0 shutout win over Wesleyan College.

Four different players scored for Piedmont (4-2-0, 1-0-0) as REID JOHNSON scored twice. The freshman netted her first career goals in the win.

The Lady Lions scored early as AMANDA WEINHART found the back of the net in the seventh minute with an assist from ABBY COX to put Piedmont ahead 1-0 at 6:08.

Piedmont would control the ball for the next 21 minutes before KATY BROWN scored off her own rebound. GABBY LOTTER took a Piedmont corner and found an opening as Brown crashed the goal for a shot which was blocked.

Brown was able to find the rebound to score the second goal of the game at 27:30.

Piedmont's third goal came of the game came just under eight minutes later as Johnson scored her first of two goals.

CAITLYN WORTHY found a streaking Johnson who was able to dribble into the 18' and give the Lady Lions a 3-0 lead.

Piedmont went into the half with a 20-3 shot advantage while MIRANDA MCNALLEY made one save.

The second half was much of the same as Piedmont outshot the Wolves (1-3-1, 1-0-0) 22-5 in the final 45.

Johnson was able to get a header on a Jade Edward's corner kick in the 58th minute to put up by four scores.
  
The Lady Lions would go onto to score their fifth goal in the 73rd from OLIVIA JUSTUS. Justus received assists from KADEN CARTER and Cox and flicked the ball over the keeper's head for the score.

EMILY SKELTON closed out the game in goal and made three saves.

-- Piedmont improves to 20-0 against Wesleyan since 2003.

-- Despite being held scoreless, CASSIE KIRK and ANYA OLSON each had three shots on goal.
