GREENVILLE, S.C. – Tied 0-0 with less than a minute remaining, Piedmont junior
CAMERON EARLS connected on a lob pass from
JOSE LINARES and beat the goalie with a header to give Piedmont a 1-0 win in its season opener.
The remaining 30 seconds was keep away for Piedmont, as the Lions just played the ball out of bounds. Piedmont has won five-straight season openers.
The final minutes saw Piedmont (1-0-0) work its offensive half and take three shots and two corner kicks. Linares and
VICTOR MUNOZ each had shots, but Earls' header sealed the game for the Lions.
Earls led Piedmont with four shots, but Munoz had a team-high two shots on goal. Seven players combined for 13 shots with five being on cage. Piedmont had 16 players see action while two freshman,
MALAMIN JALLOW and
BRYSON TEAL, made starts in their collegiate debut.
The second half belonged to the Lions as Bob Jones (0-1-0) was held to one shot. Starting goalkeeper
CAMERON VERONA made five saves, all coming in the first 45.
