Women’s Tennis Prevails at Huntingdon, Remains Unbeaten in USA South

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team won its sixth consecutive conference match, taking down Huntingdon, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon in Montgomery.
 
The Lady Lions (14-3, 6-0 USA South) took two of the three doubles matches and prevailed in five of the six single matches to earn the 6-3 win.
 
Piedmont quickly took a 1-0 lead after an outstanding performance at No. 2 doubles from CAROLINE CONNELLY and MAGGIE MOODY, who won 8-2. However, the Hawks (8-3, 4-1 USA South) answered right back with an 8-5 win at No. 1 to even the score.
 
However, the Lady Lions took the lead in the match for good, as CRYSALIN GLORIA and KARA LANDSIEDEL prevailed, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles.
 
PC quickly increased its lead to 3-1 after MORGAN BUCHHOLZ won, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Then, after Huntingdon put up a point with its own two-set win at No. 4, MEGAN WALDHEIM rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No.3 to put the Lady Lions within a point of clinching the win.
 
Playing No. 1 singles, Connelly dropped the first set, 6-2, to Josie Waddell before roaring back to win each of the second and third sets by the same margin and giving Piedmont the match at 5-2.
 
Playing out the rest of the matches, Moody rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5 while the Hawks won a third-set match tiebreaker to put up a point at the end,
 
Up next, the Lady Lions will be back in action this Tuesday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at Maryville.
 
TURNING POINT:
- After dropping the first set, 6-2, CAROLINE CONNELLY won 12 of the next 16 games to win in three sets at No. 1 singles and clinch the win for the Lady Lions.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- With a critical win at No. 3 doubles on Sunday, CRYSALIN GLORIA and KARA LANDSIEDEL improved their record at that spot to 10-1 on the season.
- Both MAGGIE MOODY and MEGAN WALDHEIM sit at 14-2 in singles for the season after Sunday's two-set victories.
