Women’s Tennis Loses 5-4 Heartbreaker at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team dropped closely contest match, 5-4, at Oglethorpe on Wednesday evening in Atlanta.
 
The Lady Lions (13-3) dropped two out of three doubles matches and split the six singles matches to fall by a single point.
 
Oglethorpe (7-3) jumped out to an early lead in doubles with an 8-2 win at No. 3. The Stormy Petrels kept the momentum rolling with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 before Piedmont put a point on the board as CAROLINE CONNELLY and MAGGIE MOODY prevailed, 8-5, at No. 2.
 
PC was able to even the match at 2-2 after MORGAN BUCHHOLZ was victorious, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. However, Oglethorpe was able to retake the lead as Lisette Phillips defeated SAMANTHA LOWRY in a three-set win at No. 6.
 
After Connelly took the first set in a tiebreaker at No. 1, Oglethorpe's Hannah Dattilo won the second and third set each 6-3 to put the Stormy Petrels a point away from clinching the match.
 
Once again, the Lady Lions battled back with a dominating win at No, 3 from MEGAN WALDHEIM.
 
Unfortunately, Oglethorpe clinched the victory with a three-set win from Elizabeth Bielicki at No. 5.
 
KARA LANDSIEDEL put PC's fourth point on the board, winning by opponent retirement in the third set at No. 4.
 
Up next, the Lady Lions return to conference play, taking on Huntingdon in Montgomery this Saturday, April 6 at 12 p.m.
 
TURNING POINT:
- The Lady Lions had cut Oglethorpe's lead to 4-3 when Elizabeth Bielicki prevailed over MAGGIE MOODY, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to clinch the win for the Stormy Petrels.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
MEGAN WALDHEIM delivered a dominant singles performance at No. 3, winning, 6-0, 6-1 over Charlotte Disley
