Lions Drop Final Regular Season Home Game to Birmingham-Southern

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: BSC 14, Piedmont 7
Records: Piedmont, 26-8; BSC, 26-11

DEMOREST, Ga. – The No. 14 Piedmont College baseball team fell, 14-7, to Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday night at Loudermilk Field.

TYLER BURDETTE's two-run home paced a five-run Piedmont (26-8) third to put the Lions in front early, but the Panthers (26-11) stormed back with four runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth to take control of the game.

Both offenses were held quite through the first two frames before the Panthers broke through in the third on a two-out, two-run single by Bran Williams.

However, the Lions had an immediate answer in the form of a five-run bottom of the third, capped by TYLER BURDETTE's two-run blast to right.

The rally began on NOAH HEATHERLY's leadoff double. The Piedmont catcher then came around to score PC's first run on TYLER SHELEY's RBI single.

ANDREW BURDEN gave the Lions their first lead on a two RBI double to right center before Burdette brought him to complete the five-run inning.

BSC responded in the top of the fourth by plating four runs and chasing Piedmont starter TYLER FAIRCHILD from the contest. Freshman right-hander CARTER BALLSTADT entered with one out and stranded two runners in scoring position to keep the PC deficit at 6-5.

The Panthers continued to pour it on in the fifth, adding five more runs off of Ballstadt to take a commanding 11-5 lead at the halfway point of the game.

After the fifth, both offenses were shut down until BSC added three more insurance runs in the top of the ninth.

Piedmont added a pair of runs in its final at bat, but it was too late, as BSC earned the 14-7 victory.

Up next, the Lions will travel to Montgomery, Alabama to take on conference rival Huntingdon in a three-game series beginning Thursday.

TURNING POINT:
- BSC scored 11 runs from the third through the fifth inning to take control of the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- TYLER BURDETTE launched his team-leading third home run of the season in PC's five-run third inning.
- BRADY BALLSTADT had two hits and an RBI.
