SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 road match at Sewanee on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Lions (15-4) were swept in the doubles portion as the Tigers (13-8) took control of the match early and continued its momentum into singles, sweeping all six lines in straight sets.
Sewanee got the match started with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles before winning, 8-2, at No. 2 and 8-4 at No. 1 to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
The Tigers rolled to a strong start in singles, as Morgan Downing won, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 while Mary Jane McCaghren clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
From there, Sewanee continued to cruise in the remaining matches, sweeping the last four in two sets each to clinch the shutout win.
The loss is just Piedmont's fourth of the season, all of which have come in nonconference matches.
Up next, the Lady Lions will travel to Gainesville, Georgia to take on Brenau this Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m.
