ORLANDO, Fla. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team split a pair of matches on day two of the SpringBreakSports.com Tournament in Orlando.
The Lady Lions (5-1) blanked Belhaven (1-6) in the morning before falling, 5-2, to Division II foe Mary (10-2) for their first loss of the season.
Match 1: Piedmont 9, Belhaven 0
Piedmont opened up its day with a dominant doubles performance against the Blazers. After
CRYSALIN GLORIA and
KARA LANDSIEDEL won, 8-2, at No. 3,
MAGGIE MOODY and
CAROLINE CONNELLY did not drop a single game, on their way to an 8-0 win at No. 2.
With
MEGAN WALDHEIM and
MORGAN BUCHHOLZ's win at No. 1, PC took a 3-0 lead into singles play.
The Lady Lions took their momentum into singles as Moody won, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 before Connelly clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2.
From there, Piedmont continued its strong play, with
SAMANTHA LOWRY,
LILY MCNEEL, Waldheim and Landsiedel each picking up two-set wins to complete the morning shutout.
Match 2: Mary 5, Piedmont 2
The Lady Lions opened up play against the Division II Marauders by losing all three doubles matches to fall behind, 1-0, heading into singles play.
Playing Division II rules, the three doubles matches only counted for a single point.
In singles play, Mary took the opening match with an easy two-set win at No. 4 before Moody continued her dominant run in singles, winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 to close PC's deficit to 2-1.
However, the Marauders quickly reestablished control, clinching the match with a pair of straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 1.
Although the match was clinched in favor of Mary, Lowry battled to prevail in a grueling three-set match at No. 6, winning the breaker, 10-6, to put the Lady Lions' second point on the board.
Up next, the Lady Lions return to the court on Sunday morning for an 8 a.m. match against Transylvania.

SAMANTHA LOWRY continued to be dominant at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. They both sit with perfect 6-0 singles records on the season.
