Women’s Tennis Takes Down Transylvania, 7-2, Sunday Morning in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team rebounded from its first loss of the season to take down Transylvania, 7-2, on Sunday morning in Orlando at the SpringBreakSports.Com Tournament.
 
The Lady Lions (6-1) took two out of three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches to clinch their sixth win of the season and remain unbeaten against Division III opponents.
 
CAROLINE CONNELLY and MAGGIE MOODY continued their dominant performance as doubles partners, winning, 8-1, at No. 2 to put PC up early. After the Pioneers (8-8) bounced back with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, CRYSALIN GLORIA and KARA LANDSIEDEL outlasted Transy's Merrick Irwin and Jessica Burton, 8-7 (5), to give Piedmont a 2-1 advantage going into singles.
 
Freshman SAMANTHA LOWRY dominated her match at No. 5, winning, 6-1, 6-1 to remain undefeated in singles play for her career.
 
After MEGAN WALDHEIM rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win of her own at No. 3, MAGGIE MOODY improved to 7-0 in singles play for the season, clinching the match with an easy two-set victory at No. 4.
 
Transy picked up a point at No. 1 singles, but the Lady Lions closed out the morning strong with a pair of two-set wins at No. 2 and No. 6 by MORGAN BUCHHOLZ and LILY MCNEEL.
 
Up next, PC will break for a day before taking on Morningside and Ursinus on Tuesday, March 12 in its final two matches in Orlando.
 
TURNING POINT:
- With the match tied at 1-all after two doubles matches, Landsiedel and Gloria prevailed in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles to give PC a 2-1 lead and momentum heading into singles.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- SAMANTHA LOWRY and MAGGIE MOODY continued their dominant play in singles, with both earning two-set victories and improving to 7-0 for the campaign.
