Lady Lions Take Down Morningside and Ursinus on Final Day of Spring Break Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team closed out its Spring Break trip with a pair of wins on Tuesday.

Piedmont began its day with an 8-1 win over NAIA Morningside before finishing off the night with a 7-2 win over Ursinus. 

The Lady Lions completed their trip with a 6-1 record over the five days with its only loss coming to Division II University of Mary. For the season, Piedmont has improved to 8-1 with conference play starting on March 20 at LaGrange. The match is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. 

 
Match 1: Piedmont 8, Morningside 1

The day's opening match saw the Lady Lions cruise through single's play before dropping one of three doubles matches.

Singles play started the day off as No. 4 KARA LANDSIEDEL won Piedmont's first point with a 6-0, 6-0 win. MORGAN BUCHHOLZ won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 before SAMANTHA LOWRY won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. 

MAGGIE MOODY won No. 5, 6-0, 6-3, while CAROLINE CONNELLY had no issues at No. 1, winning 6-0, 6-1. MEGAN WALDHEIM closed singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3. 

Morningside picked up its only win of the day at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win over the pairing of TAYLOR SORRELLS and SAVANNA KENNEDY

Playing at No. 1 doubles for the first time this season, the team of Lansiedel and CRYSALIN GLORIA won 8-7 (7-1) to improve to 7-0 as a doubles team. 

The No. 3 duo of Lowry and VALERIYA ZHURAKOVSKAYA closed out doubles play with a tight, 8-7 (12-10 ) win. 

 
Match 2: Piedmont 7, Ursinus 2

In the second match of the day, Piedmont again had no trouble, only dropping No. 3 doubles and No. 1 singles. 

The No. 1 doubles team of Buchholz and Waldheim and the the No. 2 team of Gloria and Lansidel each won 8-3 to begin doubles play. 

In singles, Connelly won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 while Waldheim won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. MAGGIE MOODY eased to a 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 as Lansidel won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4. 

LILY MCNEEL won at No. 6, 6-4, 6-2 as Buchholz fell in the three sets at No. 1, 7-5, 3-6, 4-6.
