ROME, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team saw its seven-match win streak halted on Thursday evening with a 7-2 loss at Berry.
The Lady Lions (12-2) dropped two of the three doubles matches and Berry (10-7) was able to continue the momentum into singles play, winning 5-of-6 lines to take the match.
The afternoon started well for Piedmont, as
CRYSALIN GLORIA and
KARA LANDSIEDEL put up the first point of the match with an 8-5 victory at No, 3 doubles. However, minutes later, the Lady Lions found themselves down 2-1 after the Vikings won, 8-5, at No. 2 and 8-4 at No. 1.
Trailing 2-1 heading into singles action, the Lady Lions dropped each of the first five singles matches in two sets as Berry raced out to a 7-1 lead to clinch the win.
Playing No. 1 singles,
CAROLINE CONNELLY prevailed for PC, winning a grueling third-set match tiebreaker, 16-14, over Allison Ivey to improve to 11-2 in singles competition for the season.
Up next, the Lady Lions will return home looking for their fifth straight USA South victory, hosting Berea this Saturday, March 30 at 12 p.m.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- The No, 3 doubles team of
CRYSALIN GLORIA and
KARA LANDSIEDEL took their match, 8-5, on Thursday to improve their doubles record to a perfect 12-0.
- Connelly outlasted Allison Ivey at No. 1 singles and closed out the match on a positive note for PC with her 6-4, 2-6, 16-14 victory.
