DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team rolled to its third straight USA South sweep, blanking Wesleyan, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Burgen Tennis Courts.
The Lady Lions (11-1) were able to easily take the three doubles points and quickly took the two singles matches necessary to clinch the victory.
For the second consecutive day, the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams for Piedmont did not drop a single game on their way to 8-0 wins.
CRYSALIN GLORIA and
KARA LANDSIEDEL clinched first at No. 3, moments before
CAROLINE CONNELLY and
SAMANTHA LOWRY closed out their own 8-0 win at No. 2.
PC took the clean sweep of doubles after
MORGAN BUCHHOLZ and
MEGAN WALDHEIM took their match at No. 1, 8-1.
In singles play, it did not take the Lady Lions long to clinch their 11th win of the season, as
MAGGIE MOODY rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 while Waldheim did the same at No. 3 to give Piedmont the 5-0 lead and the match.
In all six singles matches, the Lady Lions did not drop a single game in the second set, with freshman
SAVANNA KENNEDY closing out the contest with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6, her first career singles victory for PC.
Up next, the Lady Lions remain at home to host Covenant in a USA South contest. On Feb. 26, Piedmont defeated the Scots, 9-0, in a nonconference road match.
