RALEIGH, N.C. – The Piedmont College softball team earned a road doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon at Meredith.
 
The Lady Lions (9-4) lost game one, 5-4, on a seventh inning walk-off single before responding with a 10-2 victory in game two over the Avenging Angels (3-11)
 
Game 1: Meredith 5, Piedmont 4
 
The Lady Lions wasted no time jumping on the board early in game one, scoring two runs on three extra-base hits as MARIANN KENNISON tripled and scored on TAYLOR BROWN's RBI double. One batter later, Brown crossed the plate on KRISTEN MCKENZIE's first career RBI double.
 
Meredith rallied to score twice in the bottom of the second to tie the score at 2-all.
 
PC retook the lead in the top of the third after Kennison's second consecutive triple put her in scoring position's for Brown to drive her in on an RBI single to right field.
 
The Avenging Angels took advantage of a Piedmont error to tie the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
 
The Lady Lions responded by scoring an unearned run of their own to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth, but Meredith tied the score at 4-4 on Cecilia Coleman's solo shot in the bottom of the frame.
 
Then, in the bottom of the seventh, Coleman delivered a walk-off single with one out and the bases loaded to give Meredith the victory.
 
Game 2: Piedmont 10, Meredith 2
 
Piedmont jumped on the Avenging Angels early in game two, striking for five runs in the top of the first.
 
After REBEKAH STEGMAYER opened the game with a single, she was brought home immediately on Kennison's RBI double. 
 
Brown added an RBI single to plate Piedmont's second run before the Lady Lions added three more on RBI's from MADISON GARRETT, KATLYN ANDRIN and DREW GRAHAM.
 
Meredith responded by plating two runs off PC starter MADISON WHITESIDE in the bottom of the second to make the score 5-2.
 
However, the right-hander settled in after that, allowing no runs over the next five innings.
 
Piedmont's offense continued to pour it on, scoring a run in the second on Brown's second RBI single of the game.
 
After PC added its seventh run in the top of the fifth, Brown drove in her third and fourth runs of the game in the sixth to give the Lady Lions a 9-2 advantage.
 
Finally, TAYLOR WARREN's first RBI of the season gave Piedmont its final run of the game and the 10-2 lead that held for the bottom of the seventh.
 
TURNING POINT:
- In game one, the Lady Lions took the lead three times only to see Meredith rally to tie the score each time before walking off with a single in the bottom of the seventh.
- In game two, Piedmont jumped on the Avenging Angels early, plating five runs in the top of the first and holding at least a three-run lead the rest of the way.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- TAYLOR BROWN went 6-for-8 with six RBI over the two games, including four runs batted in the team's game two win.
- MARIANN KENNISON had three hits over the two games, including two triples. She scored a team-high four runs for the day.
