Men's Lacrosse Falls Late to Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Piedmont men's lacrosse team dropped a close out-of-conference matchup on Wednesday, losing 12-10 at Birmingham-Southern.

Led by a five-goal performance by BRADY JENKS, Piedmont led 7-3 at halftime, but allowed six third-quarter goals in the loss. 

Birmingham-Southern (5-3) opened the game with a goal in the first 23 seconds to take an early 1-0 lead over the Lions (3-4). 

Piedmont responded quickly with five straight goals in the opening frame to lead 5-1 after the first 15 minutes. Jenks scored three of the five scores while MASON GRAVES and JACOB WITTENBERG added goals. 

BSC scored twice in the second quarter to pull the game within three goals, but JOSH COBBINA and JONAH PRESTON closed the half to put the Lions ahead by four. 

The Panthers opened the second half with goals at 12:06, 11:55 and 10:50 to pull within one goal before adding three more goals to take a 9-7 lead going into the final quarter. 

Wittenberg scored to the start the fourth, but BSC added two goals to keep an 11-8 lead with 11:30 left in the game. 

Jenks added a pair of goals to pull Piedmont to a 11-10 deficit, but the Panthers scored with just over six minutes left to hold onto the win. 

Junior ZACH CZULADA had another solid night despite the loss, making 19 saves while adding four ground balls. 

LAMONT NESBITT won 14-of-25 faceoffs.

-- Leading 7-3 at halftime, Piedmont allowed six third-quarter goals to fall behind late. 
 
Inside The Box Score
--  Jenks had a game-high six points, five goals and one assist while Peyton Taylor had four goals and one assist for BSC.

-- Piedmont will open USA South play on Saturday against Huntingdon at 4 p.m.
